Based on a true event in northern India, this moving story of a young girl’s quiet act of bravery will inspire children everywhere. Young Aani and women in her village try to stop men from the city who have come to cut down trees by explaining that the tees provide food, fuel and homes to animals. But the tree cutters continue. Finally, Aani wraps her arms around one of the trees. The village women join her, and they save the village’s beloved forest, and her favorite tree. The distinctive illustrations are inspired by Indian miniature painting.
